As surveillance technology continues to evolve, our community members are increasingly interested in understanding how the City of Fort Collins uses these technologies and how they may be used in the future. The City is developing a policy to guide the responsible use and management of surveillance technology—focusing on key principles of accountability, transparency, data management, privacy, and appropriate oversight of the technology and data collected.
To help the community better understand these tools and the thoughtful decision-making process behind their use, the City is hosting a Public Safety Technology Showcase featuring a panel presentation from Police Services, FC911, Light & Power, GIS and Information Technology. Community members can learn more and ask questions about responsible technology use.
The Showcase is set for Thursday, Sept. 17 at the Fort Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Dr. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and light refreshments will be available. The City encourages anyone interested in public safety technology, data privacy, transparency, and the future of surveillance technology in Fort Collins to attend.
