Fort Collins Municipal Court processes traffic violations, misdemeanors, petty offenses and civil infractions for the City. The Court provides information on tickets/citations, hearings, payments and court processes to help residents navigate municipal court proceedings.

About Municipal Court

Chief Judge Jill Hueser leads Fort Collins Municipal Court, an independent judicial body established by City Charter to handle cases arising under City ordinances. Cases typically come from Fort Collins Police Services, Colorado State University Police Department, other City departments and private residents.

Understanding Your Citation

If you received a citation requiring an 8 a.m. appearance at 215 N. Mason St., you are scheduled for Municipal Court. 

Read your citation instructions carefully and follow them exactly. Municipal Court is on the first floor of the City administration building at 215 N. Mason St. (northwest corner of Laporte Avenue and Mason Street). Do not go to the Larimer County Justice Center on the southwest corner of the intersection.

Payment Options

Check the front of your citation for the Penalty Assessment box. If checked, you may pay the fine without appearing in court. Pay within 20 days to receive point reductions for 4-, 3- or 2-point violations. After 20 days, you can still pay but won't receive point reductions.

If your citation requires a court appearance and you do not appear as scheduled, the Court may issue a warrant under applicable law.

At your appearance, you may meet with a prosecutor, enter a plea, request a trial date, or consult with an attorney of your choice.

Special Cases and Specialized Programs

No Insurance Violations

These are traffic misdemeanors requiring court appearance unless dismissed beforehand. If you had valid insurance at the time of the violation, you may submit proof—such as a letter from your insurance company verifying coverage on that date—for the Court’s review. Confirm the Court received and dismissed the violation before your court date.

Active Warrants

Appear in-person at 8 a.m. on Tuesday mornings. Arrivals after 8:30 a.m. must return another day. First-time failures to appear may file a Motion for rescheduling.

Virtual Hearings

The Court holds virtual hearings several times weekly. If you need to request Zoom links for a scheduled virtual hearing, or need an interpreter, disability accommodation, or assistance using technology for a remote appearance, contact the Court in advance at court@fortcollins.gov or 970-221-6800.

Observe Virtual Hearings

Observers are permitted to watch Larimer County Jail in-custody hearings, but must remain muted and off camera. Recording is not allowed. Observers will be removed from hearings for any inappropriate behavior.

Interpreters

Certified interpreters available at no cost. Telephonic interpreters are always available; Spanish interpreters are sometimes available in person.

Arraignment Options

Zoom Arraignments (Mondays)

Zoom arraignments are available on Mondays. Email court@fortcollins.gov your contact information 10 days after receiving your citation. The Court will send you date/time instructions. 

If you need an interpreter, disability accommodation, or assistance using technology for a remote appearance, contact the Court in advance at court@fortcollins.gov or 970-221-6800.

In-Person Arraignments (Wednesday afternoons)

For those unable to appear via Zoom, in-person arraignments take place Wednesday afternoons and can take up to 4 hours. Use north entrance at 215 N. Mason St.

Court is open Monday-Friday (excluding holidays). Court is closed for lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Afternoons typically have reduced wait times.
