Fort Collins has used voter-approved sales tax since 1973 to fund community projects including street maintenance, police services, parks and recreation and transportation. This page provides information about current and historical tax initiatives.

2025-2035: Community Capital Improvement Program

This measure keeps the .25-cent sales tax, which has funded community amenities for more than 50 years. Funds support a variety of community improvement projects for trails, transportation, City facilities and infrastructure.

2006-2030 and Beyond: Open Space Yes!

Voters approved a .25-cent sales tax renewal of the Building Community Choice Natural Areas and Parks tax for open space acquisition and maintenance through 2030. In 2025, voters approved to extend the .25-cent sales tax without expiration. Funds support open space acquisition, land conservation and natural areas operations and maintenance.   

2024-2050: Parks & Recreation, Transit and Climate 2050

.5-cent sales tax supporting three key areas: 50% for parks and recreation facilities replacement and construction, 25% for climate programs advancing greenhouse gas reduction and renewable electricity goals and 25% for transit system infrastructure and service improvements.

2021-2030: Keep Fort Collins Great (KFCG) Renewal

This measure keeps the .85-cent sales tax from 2011 by raising the ongoing tax rate by .60-cent and adding a renewable .25-cent tax through 2030.

Funds support streets, transportation, fire services, parks and recreation and other community priorities including affordable housing and West Nile virus education.

2011-2021: Keep Fort Collins Great (KFCG)

.85-cent sales tax

Passed by Fort Collins voters in November 2010 to fund critical services and programs. Originally set to end December 31, 2020, voters approved its continuation in April 2019. The City uses this revenue for core operations including road improvements, emergency responder staffing and facilities, parks and recreation needs and other community priorities.
