City of Fort Collins requires all people doing business in the City to get a business license. The business license is also your sales and use tax license. All businesses operating within City limits should charge sales tax.

To legally run a business in City of Fort Collins, your building needs a Certificate of Occupancy in addition to your Sales and Use Tax/Business License.
Before opening your business location in Fort Collins, email your business type and address to Building Services buildingservices@fortcollins.gov to confirm compliance.
Note: If you operate a business out of your home, you must also complete a Home Occupation License.
