Water Meter Maintenance

Utilities completes periodic maintenance on water meters to ensure accurate and reliable service. If you received notification from Fort Collins Utilities to schedule maintenance on your water meter, you may schedule the service a no cost to you.

Appointments typically take about 20-40 minutes and your water will be turned off for about 15-20 minutes. Crews will need access to the inside water meter and the outside read device. A responsible adult (18+) must be home during the service.

Utilities' Responsibilities

Maintaining the water meter, the reading device, and the wire connecting the meter and reading device
Testing meters for accuracy
Replacing meters as needed
Discontinue water service if access to meter is denied or obstructed
Moving meters out of crawl spaces into a meter pit installed by the City

Property Owner's Responsibilities

Keep meters, reading devices, meter pits and the curb stop free and clear of obstructions
Allow access for reading, maintenance and repair
Protect from damage and freezing
Protect and repair the meter setting device, valves, and meter pits
