Street Sweeping

street sweeper clearing a road

Street sweeping helps keep our community safe, clean and healthy. By removing debris from streets and bike lanes, we support all modes of transportation, protect air quality and improve stormwater management.

Sweeping Schedule and Email Updates

Residential neighborhoods are swept four times per year.

Signs are placed on streets in advance of sweeping, with information for residents about what to expect on sweeping days.

Where and When we Sweep

  • Major streets, including bike lanes: Every two weeks (like College, Prospect)
  • Downtown: Twice a week
  • Collector streets, including bike lanes: Four times a year (like Stuart, Swallow)
  • Residential streets: Four times a year

Note: Sweeping variances may occur due to weather. We will sweep missed streets as resources allow.

What to Do on Street Sweeping Days

  • Move your car (and other obstacles) off the street so we can sweep the full width of the roadway.
  • Keep yard waste out of the street. Raking or blowing leaves, branches, grass or trash into the street is against City Code and can damage sweepers, clog storm drains and pollute the Poudre River. (City Code §26-498)
  • Trim your vegetation. Make sure trees are trimmed to 8 feet above sidewalks and 14 feet above streets. Shrubs must not block sidewalks or obstruct drivers’ line of sight. (City Code §27-57
