Next Level Neighborhoods

Next Level Neighborhoods (NLN) gives you a chance to make a positive, lasting impact in your community. Participating neighborhoods — selected through an application process — choose project leaders to guide the program for the year. The NLN-leaders work with neighbors to pick and complete activities and projects that build community, make neighborhoods stronger and help people get involved in their community.

Applications are currently closed for the NLN program.

The NLN program builds on the Sustainable Neighborhoods and Neighborhood Connections programs. It focuses on leadership development and sustainability to create a meaningful program tailored to each neighborhood's unique personality.

City staff supports neighborhoods with a designated liaison. Neighborhoods join a growing network of NLNs in Fort Collins. Throughout the year, you'll have chances to collaborate, get recognition for achievements, join City initiatives and possibly receive project funding. All neighborhoods get a Next Level Neighborhoods sign for their entrance and earn badges for completing activities.

What kinds of activities could my neighborhood complete?

The activities you plan and complete are what NLN is all about! From book clubs to community gardens, block parties to educational presentations, there's no limit to the creative ways you can build community and make a difference in your neighborhood.

Activities fall into one or more of three sustainability categories:

  • Environmental Sustainability activities focus on conservation, ecological health and climate resilience
  • Social Sustainability includes activities that build community, involve volunteerism or social safety net projects, advance equity or improve livability
  • Community Capital activities promote the neighborhood-level economy through small business support and neighbors sharing services, skills and items without using money,

Neighborhoods plan and complete activities that support their goals and fit their unique culture.
