Complex problems need collaborative solutions. In The Works, we combine Community Mediation and Restorative Justice to create a unique process for complex conflicts. We give you the support you need for these difficult conversations. This service is free.

Examples of The Works Cases

  • Group conflicts about parking, noise, lighting, pets, street use, destructive behaviors and more
  • Local business and neighborhood conflict about noise, parking, etc.
  • A series of facilitated conversations.
  • HOA and developer in conflict about communication.
  • Conflicts involving many individuals, groups or neighborhoods.
  • Complex conflicts that need time between meetings to think and take action.
  • Neighboring families in conflict around issues involving their children.

What The Works Does Not Accept

The Works does not handle situations better served by legal action, counseling or law enforcement. We also do not accept issues of child custody, divorce or domestic violence.

How "The Works" Works

  • Step 1: Contact our staff by phone, email or website to request services. You may also be referred to The Works program.
  • Step 2: 30-minute phone call with our staff and others involved to learn more and assess the conflict.
  • Step 3: Staff talks with people involved to learn about issues and what they want to happen.
  • Step 4: Common ground and concerns are identified.
  • Step 5: Experienced facilitators design the process.
  • Step 6: Involved people are invited to participate; scheduling follows.
  • Step 7: Involved people come together to share impacts and find a way forward.
