Fort Collins Senior Center Opens Doors to All Ages Beginning January 1

The City of Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Department announced today that the Fort Collins Senior Center is now open to community members of all ages, effective Jan. 1, 2027. The change removes the facility’s previous 18 years and older restriction and expands access to families, youth and residents of all generations.

The transition is part of the City’s Strategic Plan, specifically noted in the following as follows:

  • C&R 2.1 Create inclusive arts, cultural and recreational programming that reflects community interests and needs.
    • 2.1.1 Expand access in recreation via expanded Adaptive Recreation Opportunities (ARO), reduced fee program, opening and operating a new community recreation center (Southeast Community Center), and renaming and removing age restriction to the Senior Center.

“This is about making sure our facilities serve the full community around them,” said LeAnn Williams, Director of Parks and Recreation. “The west side of Fort Collins is home to residents of all ages, and we want this facility to reflect that. This is an exciting expansion of what’s available to the community in terms of recreational opportunities.”

Existing older adult programming at the facility will continue without interruption. The Fort Collins Senior Center remains a valued community hub for older adults, and Parks and Recreation is committed to maintaining and expanding the programs and services offered to them – both at this facility and across the Parks and Recreation system, including at the future Southeast Community Center.

Recreation pass options are available to accommodate community members of all ages. Residents interested in learning more about pass options can visit FortCollins.gov/Recreation or stop by any City recreation facility.

Looking ahead, Parks and Recreation will engage the Fort Collins community in 2028 in a naming process to give the facility an identity that reflects its expanded, inclusive purpose.
