Police Make Arrest for Felony Sexual Exploitation of a Child

In December 2025, Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) was notified of a digital sexual relationship initiated by an adult male with a juvenile female, through an instant messaging cellphone app. From the evidence provided at the time of the report, FCPS detectives began an investigation into Benjamin Rees (DOB 05/17/1996) and determined he had sent  sexual images to a juvenile female and attempted to engage in sexual activities with her through a messaging app for approximately one month, beginning in November 2025.

On Monday, April 6, 2026, Rees was booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following charges:

• Class 4 Felony – Internet Sexual Exploitation of a Child (1 Count)

• Class 6 Felony – Promotion of Obscenity to a Minor (1 Count)

Detectives are concerned there may be more victims or witnesses of additional criminal behavior related to Rees. Anyone who believes they are a victim or have additional information related to this type of behavior is asked to contact FCPS Criminalist Laura Knudsen at (970) 416-2825, or Larimer County Crime Stoppers at (970) 221-6868.

Rees is a former employee of Blevins Middle School, but has not been employed with Poudre School District (PSD) since April 2025. PSD has been cooperative throughout the investigation.

No additional information will be published regarding the victim in this case, who is a juvenile. Charges are merely an accusation by law enforcement, and the suspect must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
