Water Commission

Advises City Council regarding water, wastewater and stormwater policy issues such as water rights, planning, acquisition and management, conservation and public education, floodplain regulations, storm drainage and development design criteria.


Meeting Schedule and Information

Regular Meetings: Third Thursday of each month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Regular Meeting Location: 222 LaPorte Avenue, Colorado River Community Room

Work Sessions: First Thursday every other month (even-numbered months) from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Work Session Meeting Location: Utilities Service Center, 700 Wood St.

Meetings are in-person only according to Section 2-73 of the Municipal Code.


Duties

The Commission reviews and makes recommendations on Water, Wastewater and Storm water Utilities budgets, fees, water quality and local, state and federal water legislation. At times, the Commission acts as a quasi-judicial body on floodplain regulation variances. It cooperates with regional entities to coordinate planning and maintain a dialogue on regional water issues. The Commission is also involved in master planning and provides advice and citizen input regarding proposed policies and actions affecting Utilities customers.

Recommended Qualifications

Having a background in, knowledge of, or an interest in utilities and water issues in Fort Collins.

5 hours per month

History

Prior to April 20, 2021, the Water Commission was called the Water Board. [Ordinance No. 049, 2021]
