Eagle Watch

Next date: Saturday, December 13, 2025 | 03:00 PM to 04:30 PM

A bald eagle couple chattering at each other high up in a nest.

Bald eagles from the north make Fort Collins their winter home. They spend nights in communal roosts in cottonwood trees near the reservoir. Volunteer Naturalists are stationed at the viewing pier and explain the eagles’ natural history and help visitors view them through spotting scopes and binoculars. Drop-in any time during Eagle Watch programs. They are free and no registration is required, but if you sign up, you'll receive email reminders and notices of cancellations. If temperatures are below freezing, or it’s windy or foggy, the Eagle Watches may be canceled. Check Engage for weather cancellations and updates before you go.

Accessibility: Accessible parking and restrooms available. Spotting scopes and best eagle viewing are located 1/4 - 1/2 mile down a gently sloping, paved and ADA accessible trail.

What to Bring: Pets are not permitted at Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area. Please bring binoculars if you have them and dress warmly.
