Commercial Film Permits
The City of Fort Collins requires Commercial Film permits for filming on City property including public rights-of-way, parks and natural areas. Permits ensure compliance with City regulations and proper coordination of filming activities.
Do I Need a Permit?
A commercial film permit is required for any video or audio recording done by a paid crew of three or more people. The City does not require a commercial film permit for still photography that does not have sound or video.
A film permit does not guarantee exclusive use of a location. If you want exclusive use of a filming location, you will also need to apply for a Special Events Permit and/or Park Event Permit if filming in a City-owned park.
Deadline
You must submit permit applications at least 10 business days before filming starts. The City may restrict, relocate or prohibit the activity or impose a penalty if you fail to provide such notice.
Cost
The City requires a $50 application fee. Not-for-profit organizations may receive a reduced application processing fee of $25.
Application Requirements
- Production information
- Onsite contact information
- Site map of filming location
- If you plan to use amplified sound, special effects (pyrotechnics, firearms, etc.), vehicles or special equipment
