Register Your Bike

To increase the chances of recovery, make sure to register your bike

You can also register other micromobility devices like scooters, e-scooters, e-skateboards and more.

Fort Collins has partnered with Bike Index, the most widely used bicycle registration service in the world, to help keep our community’s bikes safe and recover stolen bikes more easily. Registration is quick, free and highly recommended for all bike owners

Register your bike

Note: If you're a Colorado State University (CSU) student or staff member, you must register directly with CSU here. If you registered your bike with the City before Dec. 15, 2025, your registration has been automatically migrated to Bike Index.

Why register your bike?

When bikes are registered, it increases the chances of recovery if they’re lost or stolen. Registration creates a searchable database of bikes that can be accessed by:

  • Law enforcement agencies
  • Local bike shops
  • Other cyclists and community members

What you need to register

  • Your bike’s serial number (usually found under the bottom bracket, near the pedals)
  • Basic details like brand, model, color and year
  • (Optional) A photo of your bike, which greatly improves recovery chances

Need help finding your serial number or registering? Contact us or visit any participating local bike shop for assistance.

Found or Abandoned Bikes

The Fort Collins Bike Co-op partners with the City to recover and return lost or abandoned bikes.

If your stolen bike is recovered, it can only be returned if:

  • You reported it stolen to Fort Collins Police
  • A stolen property report has been filed

Unclaimed bikes become the property of the Fort Collins Bike Co-op after the required holding period. They are then reused in local programs like Earn-a-Bike or recycled to avoid landfill waste.

Found or abandoned bikes can be dropped off at the Fort Collins Bike Co-op (501 N. College Ave.) during open hours.

If you can’t drop it off, contact the Co-op to arrange pickup: 970-484-3804.
